42.8% of the population is made up minority ethnicities, mainly Tibetan, Mongolian, Tu, Hui, Salar and Kazak, with Han Chinese being the predominant nationality in the Province.
Xining forms a major population centre in the region and is home for approximately 25% of the entire population of the Province, together with the majority of the heavy industry.
